Details, Printing Tips & FAQ’s
File Types
Most of our files are printable PDF’s that you either fussy cut, or use some of our favorite punches to punch them out. We just recently started doing cut files that can be cut on your Silhouette and Cricut. These files have a picture of a Silhouette on their product image and also tell you in the description that they are cut files that include the image and needed files to cut them on your Silhouette or Cricut. Directions for cutting these files can be found here.

Printing Tips
- Print from an Adobe product such as Adobe Reader.
- Print at actual size, sometimes Adobe Reader will have scaling set as default.
- Use a printer that is hard wired to your device rather than printing over the wifi network.
- Give the page time to load and print, with some setups it can take several minutes for this process to occur.
- Last but not least check out Adobe official printing tips: Because of the variations of printers, computers, software, drivers (and the list goes on and on), we are unable to offer tech support, but we suggest you visit this page for the most common issues and answers.
Please follow the printing tips below for each product type:
A5 Planner Inserts:
It is highly recommended that A5 inserts are printed in one of the following ways:
Method 1 (if you have a printer that can print A5-size paper) <- this is my personal method I use with my printer.
- Purchase a ream of 32 lb. paper and have this cut down to A5-sized paper (8.27″ x 5.83″) at a print shop like Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, Sir Speedy, Kinkos/FedEx, etc.
- Punch paper yourself using a 6-hole punch like my favorite punch ever. If using a single hole punch use a punched divider or insert that came with your planner as a template for the holes.
- Place trimmed and punched paper in your printer tray and print insert file. Be sure to choose ‘print on both sides’ as your printing option or you will end up with a pile of single-sided pages.
- Please note: some files were set up to let you decide how many pages you want to be printed. For instance, ‘My Health’ is just a two-page file. You can decide if you want 10 copies printed (front and back) or just a few when you are running low.
Method 2 (if you do not have a printer, or a printer that can print A5-size paper)
- Take your files on a flash drive to a print shop like Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, Sir Speedy, Kinkos/FedEx, etc. and have them print and cut the entire file for you. They can give you paper options to choose from as well.
- Note: In some cases, the insert file is set up so you can print just a page or two at a time. If you want multiple copies of those pages, please be sure to tell the printer how many pages you would like. For instance, a file like ‘My Health‘ is just 2 pages. You can decide if you want 10 copies or 20.
- Most print places we tested needed to know what A5 size was:8.27″ x 5.83″” in.
- Bring your printed inserts home and punch with a single or 6-hole punch. If using a single hole punch, use one of the punched inserts or dividers that came with your planner as a template.
Method 3 (if you are crafty, tech savvy and don’t have a printer that will print A5 paper)
- Print your inserts on letter-size 32 lb. paper.
- Trim down by marking your paper 8.27″ x 5.83″ and then use a paper trimmer like this one or this one. There are YouTube videos to demonstrate how people cut down their paper.
- Punch pages using a 6-hole punch or a single-hole punch. Use existing punched insert or divider that came with your planner as a template.
Letter-sized Inserts:
It is highly recommended that letter-sized inserts are printed in one of the following ways:
Method 1 (if you have a printer that can print double-sided)
- Place letter-size 32 lb. paper in your printer tray.
- Choose double-sided printing option from your printer dialogue box.
- Print pages
- If using a discbound planner system, punch pages with a discbound punch. This is the punch I use.
Method 2 (if you do not have a printer, or a printer that can print double-sided pages)
- Take your files on a flash drive to a print shop like Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, Sir Speedy, Kinkos/FedEx, etc. and have them print the entire file for you.
- Bring your printed inserts home and if using a discbound planner system, punch pages with a discbound punch. This is the punch I use.
Happy Planner-sized Inserts:
It is highly recommended that Happy Planner-sized inserts are printed in the following ways:
Method 1 (if you have a printer that can print double-sided)
- Place letter-size 32 lb. paper in your printer tray.
- Choose double-sided printing option from your printer dialogue box.
- Print pages
- Trim paper using a paper trimmer to 7″ x 9.25″
- Punch sheets with a discbound punch
Method 2 (if you do not have a printer, or a printer that can print double-sided pages)
- Take your files on a flash drive to a print shop like Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, Sir Speedy, Kinkos/FedEx, etc. and have them print the entire file for you.
- Ask them to trim pages down to 7 x 9.25″
- Bring your printed inserts home and punch with a discbound punch.

Planner Covers:
A5 & Personal:
- Be sure to use a heavy-weight 8.5” x 11” cardstock in your printer for printing these.
- Print your PDF at 100% to ensure it prints the size correctly.
- Trim down after printing.
- Instead of laminating, you can back them with scrapbook paper and adhesive.
- A5 and Personal size prints can also be laminated and then punched with your planner punch.
- You can make an A5-sized discbound planner by laminating these as covers, punching wth a discbound punch and then combine with any of TheResetGirl’s Meaningful Planner Inserts.
Happy Planner:
- Print this file to 8.5” x 11” sheets of cardstock and trim down. Be sure to print the file at 100%.
- Trim the covers down after printing.
- The covers should be laminated. Home laminators offer 5 mil thick sheets, which will not be as sturdy as the original covers.
- Print shops can laminate your covers with 10 mil lamination sheets.
- Punch with your discbound punch to finish and use with your Happy Planner inserts.
- Another option is to make your own planner inserts.
- The Reset Girl Print Shop now offers Meaningful Planner Inserts in this size.
Travelers Notebook:
- The TN covers have been designed as two pieces intentionally.
- Print on 8.5 x 11 cardstock paper. Trim each cover and then paste to the front and back of your TN insert using glue stick. Finish the seam with washi and clear packing tape for extra protection OR just the clear packing tape. Example of this decorating style here: http://bit.ly/TNInsertDecorating
Letter Size:
- Some printers can print borderless (with no white border around the image). If you have this type of printer, you can choose to print on letter size cardstock or sticker paper (if covering a notebook cover).
- Since most printers do not have this borderless option, it is recommended you take the printable file to a professional printer and have them print your letter size file on 11 x 17 paper for a FULL BLEED (this will ensure the design has no white border around the edge). You or they can trim the design afterwards and it will be an accurate letter-size cover.
- If you are making a discbound planner, it is also recommended you have the covers laminated by the printer with 10 mil lamination. This will make your cover SUPER sturdy. You can punch afterwards with your discbound punch.
- If you don’t mind a white border around the cover, print on regular 8.5 x 11” at home, then laminate and punch for your discbound planner.
- You can also print to full-size label sheets in your print to apply on letter-size notebook covers. This is a great technique if you want to recover an existing notebook and can recoil it. See my video here for how I printed the designs on sticker paper to cover and create my own custom notebook: http://bit.ly/TRGNotebookCover
