Hi!
So yes, I’m still a crafting fool over here at TRG headquarters. I have been working on several projects this past week including this book I am altering with a fun makeover. And while I’ve been working at my desk each day, I have been thinking about some of the things I have been doing differently this year. First up, it’s been a year of #slowplanning for any goals or projects. Instead of piling things up on myself, with competing deadlines and focus, I have tried to space out things so that I can move at my natural pace…slow and steady. I work and think best when I have lots of time to ponder, to daydream and to research different ideas and methods. But maintaining this means I have to say no to things, protecting my time and resources like a mama bear. When you start to carve out time for creating, for self-care and for personal development you have to be ruthless with saying no to other things. Lysa TerKeurst inspired a lot of women with her book about saying yes to the right things in life and I highly recommend it.
where the magic is now happening
I overwhelmed myself in the past few years trying to do so many things, driven to make the most out of the opportunity to speak into women’s lives, and I all but burnt myself out. So when you realize you are drowning, what’s the first thing you should do? Lay back, relax…and float. It’s the most calm state of being I can imagine, and it’s how I would define my new mindset. I am not going to hustle, to make it happen, to get things done. That was my mindset for the past three years and I felt like a big mess most of the time. Although it sounds counterintuitive and feels indulgent and almost lazy at times, I know the cloud of overwhelm has left me, and my ideas and inspiration are flowing again. So far, learning to float has been my best yes of 2018.
The Weekly 5 Roundup
1. Talking about taking breaks, floating and changing things up, I love this advice for giving your brain a break. Perfect tips to add to your self-care planner.
2. And what’s another great way to break away from the routine, clear your mind and energize yourself? Simple walking is a game changer, and a great way to have some alone time, meet with God or bond with your kids. This simple list is absolutely compelling and this post comes with a graphic you can print for your self-care planner.
3. When I am resetting, one of the things I love doing is listing, it makes my brain light up. I make lists for new ideas, books I want to read, YouTube channels I am loving, blogs I am reading, projects I want to make or that inspire me, Podcast episodes I want to record…and it makes me nostalgic for the #ListersGottaList days (which is making a comeback soon). There is a lot of support for the benefits of listing, like making to do lists (even if you don’t complete the tasks!), and some listsare definitely worth making when you are feeling down. If I’m speaking your love language, how about a free List Making Starter Kit? It had me at “Kit”.
4. Something that truly helps clear my head is organization. While I’m never feeling up to an entire overhaul of a room or space, I like to focus on manageable goals like organizing my desk. There is nothing like a beautifully appointed desk. To get inspired for tidying up mine, I binge watch some desk tours on YouTube. Yes, desk tours are really a thing. And I can’t wait to film one when I get mine set up for crafting 😉
5. Even when things are going smoothly a bad mood can strike suddenly. How about some tips to pull yourself out of it?
Smoothie of the Week: Cashew Date Shake. P.S. Blending dates into your smoothie gives it a yummy caramel flavor.
In the meantime, I hope your week is a wonderful one and you take some time for yourself. Don’t forget, the HappyPlaceClubChallenge has lots of inspiration for you to do that!
With much love,
Cori
