It’s another week of The Weekly Reset !
Since we have had so many requests for “back issues” of the Weekly Reset, we will now be posting the back issues on our blog as well. If you want to go back and read any you missed, you can check them out here. I will still continue to send them out to you each Sunday as well.
LET’S JUMP IN!
So in the Slow Planning path I am taking, I have been exploring aspects of goal setting and achievement like establishing habits and ways to be productive. One topic I wanted to focus on this week is routines. I used to hate the word routine, it sounded so, well, boring, as well as mundane, monotonous, tedious. How could anything good come from having routines? Well, plenty. In the past few years, I have not only made friends with the word routine and what it represents, but I have actually formed a bit of a crush. I recently decided that in 2018 I am going to become a woman with a morning routine, and this past week I began researching ways to go about it.
First things first, waking up is key to a morning routine but it can be a hard thing to do. So, I found some tips on ways to wake up early and becoming a morning person, definitely a goal for me. Since I don’t want to use my phone as an alarm clock (hello! Talk about a hotbed of squirrels!), I then went shopping for some stylish alarm clocks like this one and this one. And when I found personal alarms that can vibrate you awake gently, and multi-task as a heart and sleep monitor, step counter and more, it ended up in my Amazon cart of course. Along with a clock. Because vintage.
Once you wake up, it’s all about next steps and I loved this post that focused on healthy eating, as well as LOTS of tips for establishing a routine. I have referenced this post several times this week, especially when I sat down to sketch out my own routine. I also decided that I want to ease into exercising routinely again so what better way to baby step into it than with simple stretching. This morning stretching routine looked doable, as well as this one which can be done in 7 minutes. If we do nothing else all day, I’m going to make stretching the priority. The benefits are necessary as we get older, especially for those of us that sit all day. My biggest inspiration for my personal routine was this post, that focuses on incorporating a few apps. Of the ones suggested, I downloaded the Luminosity app and the Johnson & Johnson 7 Minute Exercise App. Here is how my routine looks now:
I like the order of my tasks, as well as incorporating some things I am currently doing to improve my gut health (see below). I am going with this for a while and will see what happens. If you do not have a routine and want to try one, I would say it all starts with a list. Write out what you most want out of your morning and how you want to feel when you are done. Incorporate a few self-care steps like an easy stretch routine and making yourself a nourishing breakfast or smoothie. While I read and do my exercises, I also listen to something soothing like this. I have some smoothie recipes below too, so give one a try. Sipping a smoothie while I read my Bible makes me feel nourished both physically and spiritually too. This morning routine makes me feel refreshed and like I took care of myself.
CURRENTLY: PREPPING FOR HEALTH
My health journey began over the summer when I first lost my dad to cancer. Like most people in that position, it certainly made me look at my own health and bad habits. I have always had a really bad relationship with food, treating it like a friend that comforts me when I am bored or depressed. I have also never been good at moderation either, so food has always been an all or nothing thing for me. The last six months have been the first time food has lost some of its’ hold on me, which started when I gave up meat and dairy, and started eating tons of veggies. When we started backsliding a bit (hello potato chips and Oreos) we decided to watch some of the health documentaries on Netflix again. My favorite is this one, as it leaves me feeling inspired that I can reverse the damage by eating healthy, natural food. It also inspired me to focus on gut healthbecause of all the symptoms I seem to have. I recently downloaded a couple books like this best seller and this one to further look into the topic. In the spirit of nourishing (and as part of our morning routine) me and Mr. Crafty have been making a smoothie every morning for breakfast this past week. We have gotten away from them for a while, so I am excited to jump back on the smoothie train. My current lineup is this one, this one, this oneand this one (Note: wherever a recipe calls for dairy I substitute almond milk, almond yogurt and vegan protein powder). In addition, I will be prepping these cute little freezer packs after a trip to the grocery store on Monday. We use this blender set so each of us can make our custom smoothie each day. Experts suggest also sipping bone broth for gut health, but since I’m off the meat, I found this vegan recipe to try. I’m gonna whip it up this week too. As I sip all this goodness each day, I will imagine my tummy being nourished and loved 😉
CURRENTLY: PLANNING – TIME BLOCKING
Another focus for me this week has been time blocking. In the spirit of single-tasking, this style of planning ensures you are batching similar tasks together and blocking out your planner in an intentional way. I found some interesting posts like this one and this one and this one that inspired me to adopt this approach again.
So far, time blocking has been my favorite style of planning. I even created my own inserts last year that embrace time blocking, and then introduced them in my shop. I made one for Taking Care of My Life and Taking Care of My Business. This planning style is simple when you start with a list of similar tasks first, then assign those block of tasks to a block of time. I really like this style of planning, and want to evolve it further with the inserts I am currently developing too. If you have never tried planning this way, I highly recommend it.
Ok, friend, I hope this inspires your week and gives you some encouragement to start a morning routine (or tweak your exisiting one), start nourishing your body on the inside and consider the art of time blocking as a way to plan for success!
Love your face,
Cori
