It’s another week of The Weekly Reset!
Let’s Jump IN!
So for the last decade the ‘slow movement’ has really grown and taken a hold in our culture. Born out of the protest of fast food, followed by the protest of fast fashion, the movement is now seeping into other areas of our society. Perhaps you’ve heard of it? In essence, the concept is really about choosing quality over quantity, or speed, in this case. It’s about slowing down, being present, and embracing the actual process.
When I started seeing more and more posts about ‘slow blogging’, I was intrigued. I did some research and found some great posts like this and thisand this one too, that really made me fall in love with the idea of ‘slow’ even more. I started thinking about our own community…and how perhaps we should start considering the idea of ‘slow planning‘.
Part of my own attitude of goal setting for 2018 comes from the philosophy of ‘slow and steady wins the race’. How many of us list our goals during the busiest month of the year and then expect to spring into action on January 1st? Just scrolling through social media convinces me that we in the planner community put serious pressure on ourselves to have it all figured out on day one. We stress over which planner we’re going to use and set up, which word for the year will guide us, what goals we’ll set. Then January starts and it suddenly becomes urgent we have our plan in place. No matter how well we did in our planning, most of us are over all this self-imposed pressure by March, and our plans of success have already begun to fizzle. We realize the planner we chose back in the fall doesn’t hold the magic to keep us on track, and the motivation we had in such abundance has depleted. I am endeavoring to do things differently this time, and I invite you to join me.
I am setting out on a journey of ‘slow planning’ in January. I am going to slip into a bit of hibernation as I take my time gathering up what I personally need to make 2018 successful. This month I will be:
- Choosing a list of self-improvement/business books (I am challenging myself to read 1-2 books per month this year) from my Kindle library.
- Designing my own planner that will include space for self-care, goal setting, habit tracking, morning/evening routines, memory keeping, inspiration creating, brain dumping and more. I want to focus on quality over quantity with how I plan my days, weeks and months. No more pressure to get it all done, this time around it’s about setting onepriority each day, slower progress being the key, and more meaningful work being the result. I am going to offer this planner to my community once it’s done.
- Working on my Craft Your Vision workbook and filling the pages with images and more to inspire my projects and goals for 2018. This book will be something I share with you in my upcoming online workshop Reset Your Goals.
- Holding a personal planning Summit where I will spend the day setting up the entire year for TRG, including the theme for each month’s content, editing my offerings and building a true vision for where TRG is headed.
- Setting up my Reset Your Health workbook with new meal plans, fitness plans and lots of images for inspiring my new health goals. I have been pinning to my fitness board like crazy.
- Editing my workspace and setting up a planning station that will become my command center.
- Finding ways to make simple living a bigger focus in 2018, by reading more blogs and resources.
I figure I will be ready to really kick off my goals by early to mid-February. Does that sound like something you want to join in with me? Hit reply and simply say, “I’m in!”
CURRENTLY PREPPING FOR FITNESS
Creating my playlists on YouTube for simple exercising for beginners and my favorite walking workouts with Leslie Sansone. I am now obsessed with gathering healthy food prep pins and planning out my meals again. I am determined to find ways to make plant-based eating doable and simplerthis year. I asked for one thing for Christmas and now I just need to learn to set it up…and use it. One trick I learned in my previous fitness quests, was to never listen to my exercise music playlist unless I was actually working out. I have so many good songs on there like my favorite motivation song(who else is a Fighter?), some that just make you walk faster and one favorite I am not even a little bit embarrased to admit I still love. I miss listening to those songs and for that reason alone, I think it may help me get my booty in gear.
CURRENT MOOD: GRATEFUL
This year was a rough one for me personally. Even before I lost my wonderful dad earlier this year, I was already struggling with depression and feeling lost. With all the ups and downs I have experienced on social media, in my business, and then in my head, it really began to make me doubt myself and I started thinking maybe I don’t have what it takes after all. I don’t have the thick skin you need to handle social media, I don’t have a business background to make good decisions, I am kind of a hot mess most of the time. And I say all that for one reason. Because being vulnerable and admitting that life is kicking my butt at times could be what you need to hear. You may need to hear that someone who looks like they have it altogether really doesn’t. You need to hear that someone who appears popular, still feels like the shy little fat kid the other kids made fun of. My vulnerability is the biggest gift I can give to you. Cause there is no greater equalizer than the power of the ‘Me too’. When I share things that make you say, ‘Me too’, well, I’ve done my job. This year was rough, but it was rough for a lot of you too. Sometimes I think the glue of the Reset Community is the ‘Me Too’ factor. And for those of you who had a rough year, I hope you show up more often in the Happy Place Club to soak up some positivity, and perhaps share your own vulnerability. May 2018 be a wonderful one for us all.
I am incredibly grateful to count you as a member of my tribe, that you allow me to speak into your life. Even as you are reading these words imagine for a moment that I am reaching through this screen and giving you a great.big.hug. 2018 will be an opportunity to share more of my heart for you and my community, and I cannot wait to get started.
Happy New Year’s to you sweet girl, may the best of your life begin right now.
Love, Cori
