Hi !
It’s another week of The Weekly Reset! If you didn’t get a chance to read last week’s message, you can click here to see a copy. I was so happy that many of you loved The Weekly Reset, thank you for the sweet messages you sent my way!
LET’S JUMP IN
So I admit I sign up for a lot of stuff, like free printables and challenges and weekly newsletters. One of my favorite resources is the brilliant and funny author Jon Acuff, who has written some pretty amazing books. This week, I signed up for his 18-Day Challenge and downloaded his newest book Finish: The Art of Giving Yourself the Gift of Done (cause starting things isn’t my problem…finishing them is. Can I get an amen?) One takeway from an email he recently sent made me stop and have a ‘dang, that’s good’ kind of moment and I wanted to share:
The concept is simple. Often, your goals fail because when you add a new goal to your life, you don’t remove something else. You just keep adding and adding and adding until your calendar is overwhelmed.Today, we’re going to do the opposite. Today, we’re going to spend ten minutes thinking about things we won’t do going forward.
Isn’t that a profound thought?
As planner girls, we are the queens of the task list, the to do list, setting goals, making plans. But do we ever stop to think what we should remove versus add to our list? I gotta be honest, this concept has never occurred to me. I’ve been a list making, personal-development junkie since I was a teenager. When I created my Master Notebook in 2015, my favorite feature was the Master Task List, a list of tasks I would add to all year long. I loved that list. In the beginning, it made me feel like I had purpose. But over time, especially this year, that list began to make me feel like I am just never doing enough…not working hard enough, not being disciplined enough, not being enough for where I feel I need to be.
Can you relate?
But reading those few sentences in that one little email, I felt the clouds part, the angels begin to sing….and now I feel excited and empowered to start over. First, I am going to reset and create a list of what I will not be doing anymore…like an ‘undo list’.
Of course, the idea of an ‘undo list’ was so cool, I was convinced someone more brilliant had thought of it first. So I turned to Uncle Google and, indeed, found some great ideas and further thoughts on undo lists like this brilliant one and this one here aaaaaand maybe this one too. And here is a holiday version perfect for the current season!
And if are feeling daring or overwhelmed, how about this idea of changing your to do list habit altogether?
I hope the idea of creating an undo list, removing things from your current task list, and reevaluating your yearly goal list has got you more excited than ever now that you may see that list differently. So let’s do some purging shall we? Hopefully, we’ll find more time to recharge, downsize and simplify our lives in the process.
THIS WEEK’S ROUND UP
Okay friends, here are a few other things I rounded up for you:
CURRENTLY LISTENING: Goodness gracious do I love this song I heard on Spotify the other day. The video version has been viewed over 39 million times so it’s kind of a big deal. If you love it, here’s an entire playlistof goodness.
CURRENTLY WATCHING: Are you challenged with wrapping gifts? I always seem to wait until the last minute to do mine, and recently I found some tips that made me rethink my supplies and techniques. Take a peek at this fun video full of ideas, plus this Japanese wrapping hack that uses no tape.
CURRENTLY STUDYING – FAITH: Sharing two of my favorite Christian resources: My buddy Kari Denker of Stone Soup for Five offers creative ideas for Bible study, like this amazing and free Journal + Doodle Bible Study on Ephesians plus she has a whole series of videos to show you how to doodle your own way through. Blogger Arabah Joy comes up with great challenges and printables, plus thought-provoking posts that always make me think, I wish I had thought of that. I also went on a hunt for some good Bible study resources recently and bought this book after it came so highly recommended.
CURRENTLY CRAFTING: Love making gifts and wrapping them in creative ways? Sharing my homemade gifts/wraps Pinterest board with you in case you are looking for some budget friendly ideas. As for crafting gifts, I am making these little sweeties for our sponsored child in Rawanda. And since I need to make my ornaments this year, I am inspired by these and these.
P.S. If you love the thought of brightening a child’s Christmas + using up your stash in the process, these organizations welcome handmade cards for kids in need.
Well, that’s it for now…I hope you have a wonderful week awesome girl!
Love, Cori
