It’s another week of The Weekly Reset! If you didn’t get a chance to read last week’s message, you can click here to read a copy.
JUMPING IN
Let’s chat about words. Well, specifically one word. The concept of choosing a word and using it as a guidepost for your year has been growing steadily in popularity. It’s a simple idea, and for many people an effective one. For me, 2017 was my most successful word choice and application yet.
This word summed up my purpose this year and came straight out of the Bible. Like a directive, it’s become a filter through which I’ve been making decisions in my business and life this year…and will continue to do so going forward. Every new idea or initiative I come up with (and I come up with ’em often cause I’m an idea girl like that), goes through the simple filter of, Does this strengthen my brethren? If not, the idea is tossed or tabled.
Your word for next year can do the same thing for you. Say you choose the word ‘brave’. Obviously a word like that was meant to be an inspiration for you to act bravely, maybe the year ahead is going to have some scary challenges or hard decisions, or maybe you are looking to stretch yourself a little more. It should become the catalyst for your decisions, like when you want to chicken out of an opportunity that scares you, your word should become the encourager in your ear that whispers, “Be brave. Step out, even if you can’t see all the steps ahead”. ‘Brave’ should propel you forward, when what you really want to do is hide.
Choosing a word and allowing it to really have a say in your life can be so impactful. If you’ve never tried it before or are struggling to choose your word for 2018, use the resources below to get some clarity, and then give it a try.
OneWord365 started in 2009 and allows you to connect with others who share the same word. In addition, the fabulous Ali Edwards has her own One Little Word community that crafts with their word, and this websitegives a Christian perspective on choosing a word. Doing a little more research, I also found this book on how to take action with your word, plus the authors have a great website with testimonials and resources for how the movement has impacted people’s lives.
Want to start things off right with your word? Watch this video I made last December for ideas, sign up for the freebies I share in the video, and if you’d like your own custom word like mine above, you can order one herefrom artist Colleen Attara. I just ordered my new word for 2018 and can’t wait to feature it in my photography like this year’s word!
THIS WEEK’S ROUND UP
Okay friends, here’s a couple things I rounded up for you:
CURRENTLY PLANNING: So productivity has been a hot topic in my head lately, probably cause of the new launch. I want to create good but doable routines for 2018. I spend a lot of time in planning mode before I’m ready to jump in to execute, and I’ve been doing my research looking for ideas. I stumbled across some great resources to share this week, like this post about the benefits of Sunday Prep, and this post on decluttering your workspace in order to free up mental clutter, and this infographic is a simple reminder on what kills productivity. As I try new things, I will be sharing what works and what doesn’t with you.
CURRENTLY SIMPLIFYING: Living in the RV for 6 months now has really made me rethink small space living. I overpacked in a big way, and I can’t wait to get back home to Washington to unload stuff into our storage. One area I am really overpacked with is clothes. Although I downsized my clothing by at least 60% when we packed up our home, I’m still not wearing half the clothes hanging in my 4 foot by 3 foot closet (yes, you read that right, and it’s less thn 2 feet deep!) I love the message that Courtney Carver preaches on this subject. If you watched the Minimalism documentary on Netflix, you may remember her as the creator of Project #333, a woman who chose 33 items from her wardrobe and wore them consistently for 3 months. It has sparked a big movement, and really gave a platform for the capsule wardrobe. I am really ready to apply this to my life now that I see my habits will support it. Do you want to join me? Also on her blog, she recently posted some advice about taking care of yourself over the holidays AND the most meaningful gift you can give yourself that are worth reading.
CURRENTLY PREPARING: One day I plan to spend Christmas here, but this year, we are snuggled up in Pigeon Forge, TN and will be visiting this bucket list destination over Christmas. This town is the most family-friendly area I have ever seen. We are thinking of making it a second home we love it so much here. If you have never been, consider adding it to your bucket list of family vacation destinations. Speaking of vacations, some of you will be traveling with your kids over the holidays. I came across this post and loved the ideas presented, especially the Snackle Box, which I made for own daughter when she was little and this post has even more great ideas. If you are staying home this winter, here are some ideas to keep the kids busy too.
Well, that’s it for now…I hope you have a wonderful week awesome girl!
Love, Cori
