Are you ready for another Weekly Reset?
I have to admit, last week I shared my favorite topic yet and that always makes me a little anxious about creating the next one. How will I ever top it? I end up asking myself. So instead of topping it, I thought I would keep building upon the concept of ‘slow planning’ until I feel like moving on to something else. And with all the feedback I got last week, I am thinking you guys will appreciate even more ideas for approaching your planning at a slower pace.
LET’S BREAK IT DOWN
So we are closing on the first week of January and I have some ideas of how I want to make some meaningful changes. I always focus on making a list of the things I want to do for the year, but this time I am kicking things off by focusing on what I don’t want to do this year. That’s right, I’m making a Stop Doing List.
Yep, you read it right. It’s like the To Do List’s bossy sister. When this came across my radar I was all kinds of intrigued, because lists. So I put my Nancy Drew cap on and did some snooping on the internets. Luckily, two of my favorite bloggers have posted their take on this: Living Well Spending Less shares here ( her #2, #7 and #8 are on my list too) and you can read Money Saving Mom’s post too. And if you are an entrepreneur type, XOSarah has some tips on what you should stop doing in your business this year.
When I set up my new 2018 Master Notebook later this month, I will definitely be making a entire spread to keep adding up all the things I am NOT doing this year. Sounds fun right?
IT STARTS WITH HABITS
Another topic I am researching more this month is habits. I am fascinatedwith them. After all, they are the building blocks for achieving goals, for our behavior and how we ultimately live our lives. If I have habits that aren’t serving me, how I do successfully give them a makeover? And all those highly successful peeps out there, how do I mimic the habits that have got them to the finish line?
One book I started to read last year (but never finished) is Charles Duhigg’s highly popular The Power of Habit, and I’m jumping back in to finish it. In addition, I will be working my way through Stephen Guise’s Mini Habits (for those that want to baby step their way), and Habit Stacking by S.J. Scott, my favorite ebook author. I want to really create a good foundation of habits this year and cozying up with some books about habits is how I kicking things off. Oh yeah, it’s happening people.
The first habit I am adopting this year is becoming a dedicated book reader again and my Official 2018 Reading List is now a thing. I still have to figure out how to pace myself, but I am gonna embrace my inner book nerd again. (side note: As I have been designing my upcoming Reset Life Membership, I am definitely including a book club as one part accountability and one part fun).
CURRENTLY STUDYING: I am absolutely loving my Mornings with Jesus Daily Bible. I started out with it back in November and now in January, I find myself looking forward to opening it up every morning. Daily Bibles are designed to be read in one year by following the simple reading plan. I find reading the Bible in this format (Old Testament passage + Psalm + Proverb + New Testament passage) so easy to do. I know that I can read this amount in about 15 minutes but I often find myself stretching this time out because I like to linger over and think through some of the scriptures. And that is the part I love, that reading is now more of a joy. If daily Bible reading is a challenge for you, or a goal you want to achieve, I highly recommend purchasing a Daily Bible or a reading plan. Weekly Plans can also work if you want more flexibility, too. Developing good Bible study habits is not always easy and last year I spent a lot of time reading tips to get me started like this, this, this, and this. If you like the idea of color-coding during your reading, this post and this book gave me good ideas.
CURRENTLY SELF-CARING: When it comes to self-care, my word this year is gonna be ‘Nourish’. I love the idea of nourishing my body, soul and self. Doesn’t that word just sound yummy? To me it sounds loving, nurturing, life-giving. I want to approach good health with ‘Nourish’ leading the way. I found this lovely post that really inspired me and got my wheels turning for developing my new self-care routine. Meal planning with ‘Nourish’ in mind led me to this handy guide, and this array of delicious eye candy that looks so inviting. When it comes to your own health and self-care, what word feels good to you? Have you created a Pinterest board to start capturing ideas you can try out this year?
Ok, my sweet friends. That’s it for now. I hope this edition of the Weekly Reset got you excited to create your own Stop Doing List, create a 2018 reading list of your own, implement some Bible reading and start thinking about what self-care looks like for you this year.
Love your faces,
Cori
